I happened across this video while browsing for Pulp. I couldn’t resist posting it, as Suede are still a band I listen to on a regular basis, particularly the Sci Fi Lullabies B-sides comp. Again, great song and great direction on this video, in my opinion.
“Cracked up, stacked up, 22…psycho for sex and glue…”
What can I say about Pulp that hasn’t already been said. I was heavily into Britpop when it was happening and I still identify with many of its tenets: sophistication, smart dress, smart music. In so many ways it really was a continuation of the ideas that started with the original Mod movement with regard to “clean living under hard conditions” and that sort of thing. A lot of people might disagree with that, but that’s my opinion . As many have written and said, one of its downfalls as a movement was getting into bed with politicians (metaphorically speaking), as many who were a part of the movement, chose to do with New Labour. I guess that all depends on who you ask though. So below are some videos from Pulp during that period. I have always found the direction of these videos to be brilliant, as is the music. I’ve included one from the Separations album, which was actually just before the Britpop period, a precursor if you will. I would have liked to have included a video for the Separations track, Death II, but was unable to find a video or any live footage for that song, that is of decent quality. The other videos were originally released on Sorted for Film & Vids.
