This band is probably the best thing I’ve heard in a long long time as far as new bands go. I have to admit, even I find them inspirational, musically speaking. While it’s true that they have a lot of obvious influences from bands (Magazine, Echo & The Bunnymen, MBV…) within the new wave / alternative umbrella of genres; they do bring something new to the table as well, in the way they bring those influences together. Aside from the music, they also have a great sense of style as a band and as individuals, as far as their fashion sense is concerned. Either that or they have a great stylist.
Recently signing to Polydor / A&M, they drop a new single on May 31st but the official video is already on YouTube and unlike the video for their first single, O Maybe I, which although shot well, is an obvious rip off of Magazine’s The Light Pours Out Of Me; the video for Five Trees is available to embed, so I’ve included it here.
On a side note, their first single, O Maybe I, is also available to purchase / download on the band’s official web-site.
On a MoGraph note, The Five Trees video has some nice graphic elements that look like they were done with Trapcode and possibly some live action lighting techniques with various liquids and dyes. Although, it very well could just be all Trapcode in After Effects. From a design standpoint, the graphics have an obvious influence from the album covers for the two Cocteau Twins EP’s, Echoes In A Shallow Bay and Tiny Dynamine, released in 1985 on 4AD Records; which were designed by Vaughan Oliver and Nigel Grierson of 23 Envelope.
